The state gave $58 million in film tax credits in 2014

Massachusetts issued $58 million in film tax credits in 2014, with Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer’’ receiving the most breaks, reports The Boston Globe.

The state gave credits to more than 110 projects in 2014, and about 65 percent of the tax credits went to big Hollywood productions, according to a state Department of Revenue report released Monday, says the Globe.

The top three productions receiving state film tax credits were “The Equalizer’’ with Denzel Washington at $15.5 million, followed by “Ted 2’’ with $14 million, and “American Hustle’’ with $8 million.

Massachusetts provided 72 percent more in tax credits in 2014 than it did in 2013, reports the Globe. Gov. Charlie Baker unsuccessfully proposed phasing out the state’s controversial film tax credit earlier this year.
