The Medord Fire Department received a call Monday morning for a fire at a three-family home on Main Street, The Boston Globereported.

There was one issue: Medford firefighters were already on the scene of a fire that had broken out 30 minutes earlier.

Neighboring fire departments were called and on their way, but time was of the essence for Adma Rodrigues and her 5-month-old twins. They were surrounded by smoke in their burning home, according to the Globe.

Medford Police Officers Paul Giordano, a 30-year veteran of the force, and Sheila Quinn, a 21-year veteran, were first on the scene and sprung into action.

Giordano took the girls from Rodrigues. The mother then went back into the building to retrieve items, according to the Globe, and Quinn went in after her. The mother was later reunited with her children.

The two officers told the Globe that they were just doing their jobs.

“At the end of the day it’s a good feeling when you go home to your family and you have that feeling that you helped someone,’’ Giordano said. “It could have been worse.’’
