Wakefield police recruit Elf on the Shelf for the holidays
For the holiday season, the Wakefield Police Department has enlisted some unlikely extra help — an officer who’s about a foot tall, dresses in all red, and spreads Christmas cheer.
In addition to watching to see who’s naughty and who’s nice, The Elf on the Shelf has been hanging out with Wakefield police, helping officers with their daily duties. Since he was sworn in and given a badge last week, he’s been working out, taking over for the chief on his days off, and riding along for patrols — all of which the department documented on Twitter.

This isn’t the first Elf on the Shelf to get involved with local authorities — last week, Bourne police put out a mugshot of a similar suspect, seeking to catch the mischievous elf wanted in a string of gingerbread home break-ins.
