Former Boston Olympic head says he still has no regrets

John Fish, the businessman whose rocky leadership of Boston’s Olympic bid contributed to its heavy local opposition and eventual failure, has no regrets from his time in charge, he told The Boston Globe.

“It was a very humbling experience,’’ Fish, who has long worked in Boston’s private sector, said of his move into the public sector as head of Boston 2024.

“What I have learned and have taken away from this is: Day one, the public needs to be in, and probably more importantly should be consulted on all aspects of a planning process,’’ he said. “Would I do it all over again? Absolutely.’’

Fish, along with Olympics opponent Chris Dempsey, were named Bostonians of the Year by The Boston Globe magazine for spurring a conversation about Boston’s future identity.

“Whether you were for or against the Olympics, the pair got the whole region talking about what the city’s future should look like and how we could get there,’’ the Globe’s Shirley Leung writes.
