Assault suspect in military-style vest allegedly planned to shoot responding officers

A Framingham man who allegedly assaulted a woman and choked another individual said he planned to open fire on responding officers, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office. The man, wearing a military-style vest, allegedly said he wanted to go “out in a blaze of glory,’’ authorities said.

David McNulty, 31, was held without bail after a dangerousness hearing Thursday in Framingham District Court. He was charged with strangulation, possession of ammunition without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, assault and battery, and assault and battery on a household or family member.

At 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call about an intoxicated male on Walnut Street in Framingham. Before police arrived, the man had allegedly kicked a woman in the stomach and closed a door on her hand. He then choked another person, authorities said.

After McNulty was taken into custody, he allegedly told police the only weapon he possessed was a knife. However, when police searched his apartment they found a firearm under his mattress and a bag of ammunition, according to authorities.

McNulty is scheduled to appear in court on January 19.
