The Red Line operator in charge of last week’s runaway train skipped his “fact-finding’’ hearing with investigators on Monday, reports The Boston Globe.

David Vazquez, 53, knew his attendance was required at the meeting, according to the Globe, but called in sick under doctor’s orders due to stress.

“My client has a long, good record with the MBTA driving those trains and doing his best to drive them as safely as possible,’’ Philip Gordon, Vazquez’s lawyer, told the Globe. “It’s horrible — this guy’s under an immense amount of stress. He cares deeply about people, he cares deeply about his passengers, and the accusations have been really difficult for him.’’
