Man accused of threatening to use a metal grilling fork as a weapon in Roxbury
A 35-year-old man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly threatened bystanders with a large metal grilling fork outside the Boston Transitional Clubhouse in Roxbury.
Benjamin Coffey, of Dorchester, was charged with assault and battery, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and being a disorderly person, according to Boston police.
Police responded to a call that a man who had been harassing bystanders at the clubhouse, a nonprofit for people with long term mental illness, an hour prior had returned wielding a large metal grilling fork. He was threatening to stab employees at the facility, police said.
When officers asked Coffey to drop his weapon, he refused, stating he would not go with the officers alive, according to police. He allegedly yelled for officers to shoot him.
Police said an officer was able to get close enough to Coffey to deploy department-issued pepper spray, enabling another officer to apprehended him.
