According to the Portsmouth Herald, Oregano was rescued by the N.H. Marine Mammal Rescue Team on October 3 at Seabrook Beach, after he was found in declining health, suffering from a wounded flipper, signs of an upper respiratory illness, and lethargy. His symptoms were “likely due to a long journey through large wave activity,’’ reported the Herald.

He was later found to have also contracted seal pox.

Oregano was transported to the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay to be rehabbed. According to the Herald, when Oregano was admitted October 4, he only weighed 30 pounds.

By December, however, Oregano had successfully recovered and returned to a healthy weight of 70 pounds. On Saturday, he was released back to his New Hampshire home at Wallis Sands State Beach in Rye.
