‘Layaway angel’ closes out bills at Brockton thrift store
A “layaway angel’’ picked up the tab on 19 outstanding bills at a Brockton thrift store and food pantry, according to The Brockton Enterprise.
The Charity Guild relies on donations of clothes, shoes, jewelry, toys, and homegoods — items that are often in high demand for the shoppers — and allows patrons to place items on layaway for about a week, giving them more time to pay the total, according to the Enterprise.
On Monday, a woman who only gave the store her first name, Christine, paid the $345 leftover in layaway bills, the Enterprise reported. The average layaway bill at Charity Guild ranges between $10 and $30, and most of what Christine paid for was clothing.
