White House uses Obama Acadia hike to push climate change action
What better way to emphasize the beauty of the natural environment than a hike in Acadia National Park?
That was the thought of the White House Instagram account on Sunday, which posted a photo of the Obama family’s trip to Acadia in July 2010 to emphasize the president’s plea for climate change action.
The photo shows the president, his wife Michelle, and kids Sasha and Malia hiking up Cadillac Mountain during a short vacation.

The caption of the post is a quote from Obama at the UN Climate Change Conference, or COP 21, in which he calls for protecting the environment for the next generation.
“I want to be able to take my little grandson or granddaughter on a walk to the park and know that the planet is in pretty good shape. And I want to feel like I contributed to that,’’ Obama said. “And when I’m holding that little hand or pushing that kid on a swing and I look up at the sky and I know that it’s okay—that little kid may not know that there was an alternative future there that could have been grim. … And that’s fine with me.’’
