Man says he paid someone to steal skeletal remains from Worcester cemetery

A Hartford, Connecticut man found with skeletal remains in his apartment allegedly paid someone to retrieve the remains of five bodies from Hope Cemetery in Worcester, The Worcester Telegram reported.

Amador Medina, 32, was arrested Friday in Hartford as a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts, and agreed Monday to return to Worcester to face the charges against him. In Massachusetts, he will be charged with five counts of disinterment of bodies, conspiracy to commit a crime, and being an accessory before the fact (breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony).

In court Monday, Medina said he paid someone in May to steal the remains. Worcester police said the remains of five bodies — three adults and two children — were stolen from the cemetery in October, the Telegram reported.

Medina also told police that he took the bones for religious reasons, as he practices Santeria and intended to use the bones in religious ceremonies for healing.
