Former Mass. doctor accused of sexual assault incidents spanning 30 years has never been charged criminally

Roger Hardy Handout / Princeton University 1981 Yearboook

Roger Hardy, 54, a once prominent Massachusetts fertility doctor, faces accusations from women who say he sexually assaulted or inappropriately touched them that date back more than three decades. Yet during all of those years, the complaints against him went unaddressed as he continued to practice medicine, according to a Boston Globe report.

More than a dozen people in positions of authority — college officials, supervisors, and medical colleagues — failed to act on the complaints they heard about Hardy, the Globe reported. Then, in 2013, the Massachusetts medical licensing board began an investigation into Hardy after receiving inappropriate sexual contact complaints from two patients, according to the Globe.

Two years later, allegations spanning three decades have come to light, but Hardy has not been charged criminally in any of the cases, the Globe reported. The accusers include female classmates from his undergraduate days at Princeton as well as patients who have detailed instances of inappropriate sexual contact — sometimes while they were sedated.

“I was beside myself at the idea that he’d been counseling people about sex,’’ a woman who says she was sexually assaulted by Hardy at Princeton told the Globe. “He does ‘contrition’ well. He does ‘concern’ very well.’’

Hardy surrendered his medical license in 2014 before relocating with his family to Thailand, where he can’t practice medicine as a foreigner, the Globe reported. Still, he says that he is innocent. When confronted by a board of investigators about his actions, he replied, “I know my practice.’’
