Smith, who formerly lived in Media, Pennsylvania, was working at Camp Good News in Sandwich in 1981 when he was 33. During that summer, he inappropriately touched two victims, who were 12 and 16 at the time, authorities said.

The investigation that shed light on Smith began in 2011 after former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown wrote in a memoir that he was molested at the camp during the 1970s. Authorities uncovered similar accusations against Smith, and charged him in 2013.

As part of his probation, Smith will serve three years under house arrest and be placed on the sex offender registry, authorities said. Other terms of his probation include restricted Internet access, wearing a GPS monitoring device, and avoiding unsupervised contact with anyone under 18, according to the DA’s office.
