Police: Cambridge schools gun threat ‘likely a continuation’ of earlier bomb threat
Several Cambridge public schools were the subject of an anonymous email threat of gun violence on Thursday, Cambridge Police and Cambridge Public Schools said in a statement.
The email targeted “Cambridge, Mass Middle Schools,’’ including specific references to Amigos School, Putnam Avenue Upper School, and Vassal Lane Upper School, according to police.
The threat comes just a couple of days after Cambridge police received an anonymous email that a bomb had been placed in a Cambridge middle school.
Police said they believed the latest threat was “likely a continuation’’ of the one from Tuesday, and they “have confidence’’ these are from the same individual.
Schools will remain open on Thursday with a few safety measures added. The schools were locked and alarmed last night at 10:30 p.m., and police said would conduct walk-throughs before 6:30 a.m. Police also said they will be present in all schools throughout the day and during after-school activities.
