Brother of ‘94 Brookline Planned Parenthood shooting victim pens a gun violence op-ed

Liam Lowney’s sister Shannon was shot and killed while working at a Planned Parenthood in Brookline 21 years ago.

Two mass shootings in one week’s time — at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs Friday and a social services center in San Bernardino Wednesday — has Lowney imploring leaders in Washington to take action when it comes to gun laws.

“It is heartbreaking that we as a society appear to accept this reality and do not hold our leaders accountable for their unwillingness to change it,’’ wrote Lowney in a Boston Globe opinion piece titled, “A story that survivors know all too well.’’

“At what point does this ‘new normal’ become unacceptable to us?’’ Lowney asked in the piece.
