2 teens arrested in connection with murder of Vietnam vet

Two teens were arrested in connection with the murder of a New Bedford cab driver.

Eighteen-year-old Alexander Mills and a unnamed juvenile male are scheduled to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court Tuesday on charges relating to the murder of Donald DePina.

Police found DePina, who had been shot, in a New Bedford parking lot on Saturday night, according to a press release from the Bristol County District Attorney’s office. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to The Boston Globe, DePina was a Vietnam War veteran who drove a cab for Blue Bird Taxi to stay busy. He joined the army in 1968, served in Vietnam, was a drill sergeant at Fort Dix, and belonged to the US Army Reserve. He was also the veterans agent for New Bedford for a period of time.
