The Haverhill and Lowell lines will have fewer trains when a new MBTA commuter rail schedule goes into effect December 14, and riders are not happy, reports The Boston Globe.

“Just call an apple an apple,’’ Ellen P. Connolly, a Haverhill line rider, told the Globe. “Don’t tell me you’re doing schedule changes when you’re doing a schedule cut.’’

The MBTA says the new schedule, which means two fewer trains will operate in and out of North Station daily, will improve service and decrease the amount of delays. During rush hour, each line will have just as many trains or more, Corey Lynch, deputy director of railroad operations at the MBTA, told the Globe.

“It’s going to cut options for some people,’’ Lynch told the Globe. “But it’s going to increase options for other people.’’
