Missing Hamilton toddler has been found

It remains an active investigation.

A 2-year-old girl that had gone missing has been found, according to Hamilton Town Manager Michael Lombardo.

The girl was reported missing early Friday morning, according to state police.

“She has been found alive. She is being transported to the hospital for evaluation,’’ Lombardo told Boston.com.

The girl, who is listed in fair condition, was inititally admitted to Beverly Hospital. She has since been transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital, a Beverly Hospital spokesperson said.

She was last seen at around 3 a.m. Friday, according to The Boston Globe. Her disappearance touched off a massive search. Massachusetts State Police provided a helicopter, K9 units, detectives, and uniformed patrols to aid several local police departments in the search, said Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Tom Ryan.

At a press conference Friday morning, Hamilton Police Chief Russ Stevens said the girl’s parents called the police at 7 a.m.

“I don’t know if she was taken from her home or if she wandered off,’’ he told reporters.

He would not say who found her, but said, “She was found in an area where passers-by could find her.’’

When asked if there will be an arrest, Stevens said, “It’s like a jigsaw puzzle and a bunch of the puzzle pieces are missing, so I can’t even put it together.’’

He could not comment on the child’s condition, but said he is going to the hospital to see her.
