Smith student activists barred reporters from entering their sit-in

Activists at Smith College banned journalists from an on-campus sit-in held to show solidarity with University of Missouri protestors.

Reporters were prohibited from covering the 12-hour Student Center sit-in Wednesday unless they agreed to express their support for the students’ cause in their reporting, according to MassLive.

The limitations follow an incident at Mizzou earlier this month when student activists and some faculty attempted to physically keep journalists from covering on-campus protests.

MassLive reports the activists’ goal was to establish a safe space for students of color.
