What was a pelican doing in Gloucester?
A local blogger shooting video on Gloucester’s Niles Pond spotted what appeared to be a pelican floating, dunking, and eventually flying around.
Kim Smith posted the video to YouTube and wrote about the discovery on the GoodMorningGloucester blog. In the blog, Smith writes that she was shooting video of a male swan when she spotted what she initially thought was a second swan.
It turned out, according to Smith, to be an American White Pelican,which she notes is a bird rarely seen in this part of the country.
White pelicans are one of North American’s largest birds, with a 9-foot wingspan, according to Audubon.
