Missing college student found dead in New Hampshire river

The body of a missing Plymouth State University student from Massachusetts was found Tuesday morning in the Pemigewasset River.

Jake Nawn, 23, was a English major at Plymouth State University from Holden, Massachusetts.

Plymouth (N.H.) Police Chief Stephen Lefebvre told Boston.com the body was positively identified as Jake Nawn, 23, of Holden, who had first been reported missing Thursday.

According to a medical examiner at the scene, Lefebvre said, “at first glance, there’s no sign of any foul play involved.’’ An autopsy is scheduled for 1 p.m Wednesday.

“We offer our deepest condolences to Jake’s family, friends, and loved ones,’’ Plymouth State President Donald Brix said in a statement Tuesday.

Nawn was a junior at Plymouth State studying English, the Union Leaderreported Saturday.

The university scheduled an informal candlelight service at 6 p.m. Tuesday and encouraged students to seek support from the school’s counseling and health centers.

Nawn’s disappearance was first reported after he failed to show up for a planned meeting with his mother at the Common Man restaurant Thursday night in Plymouth, according to the Union Leader. Police released surveillance footage showing Nawn at the Hannaford supermarket on Highland Street, before he was dropped off on Foster Street where the restaurant is located, around 4 p.m.
