Boston Marathon resource group offers tips to deal with Paris tragedy
A resource group for Boston Marathon bombing survivors offered a series of coping strategies for those experiencing distress in light of the Paris attacks.
“The B.A.A. and Boston Marathon community stands with Paris through this tragedy. We, at the Resiliency Center are truly saddened by the occurrence of events in Paris last night, and stand in solidarity with all the people tragically impacted,’’ wrote the Massachusetts Resiliency Center, a resource group for victims of the 2013 attacks. “We are thinking of you and offer our support if you are experiencing distress as a result. Such events have the potential to trigger flashbacks and emotional distress.’’
The Massachusetts Resiliency Center then listed tips for dealing with potential distress, including social support, deep breathing, self-soothing, and expressive activities. They also recommended stepping away from computer or smartphone screens beaming violent images.
Several survivors of the 2013 attacks reacted to the Paris attacks over the weekend, including MBTA officer Dic Donohue, Rebekah Gregory, and Adrianne Haslet-Davis.
“To the citizens of Paris and of France, we are with you,’’ the Boston Marathon’s Facebook page wrote. “What terrible tragedy and sadness. You are our friends. We will be there for you, as you were there for us.’’
The Resiliency Center was established in July 2014 as a central resource hub to help the victims of the 2013 bombings, it says on its website.
