Harvard medical school dean plans to retire
The dean of Harvard’s Medical School plans to resign next summer.
Jeffrey Flier has overseen the school and its 12,000 faculty for nine years, Stat reports. During his time in office, the 67-year-old revamped the medical students’ curriculum and strengthened school ties with the medical industry.
At least one person is hoping the school will get its first female dean.
“There are certainly plenty of talented women around who could do a good job,’’ Dr. Laurie Glimcher, dean of Cornell’s medical school, told Stat.
Harvard’s first female President, Drew Faust, almost appointed a female dean back in 2007 before appointing Flier, Stat reports.
