A chef at a New Hampshire correctional facility was arrested Thursday for allegedly smuggling drugs to inmates, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Charles Hanson, a prison chef, was arrested for smuggling drugs into the facility.

Charles Hanson, 49, of North Woodstock, N.H, worked at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin. He was charged with delivery of articles to prisoners, which is a felony.

“Hanson was arrested for attempting to bring a large amount of controlled drugs to inmates,’’ according to police. “[The drugs have an] estimated prison value to be in excess of $67,000.’’

The arrest came after a lengthy investigation, said police. Hanson was released on personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned in the First Circuit Berlin Court Dec. 29.

No information on Hanson’s attorney was immediately available.
