A Hyde Park Pop Warner team is playing to honor the teammate who took his own life
Ambrose “Junior’’ Ojimba died two weeks before the season started.
When the Pop Warner Cowboys play in the regionals Sunday, every catch, tackle, and throw will have extra meaning.
The undefeated Hyde Park team is vying for a national championship in honor of a 14-year-old teammate who took his life over bullying, reports CBS Boston.
Ambrose “Junior’’ Ojimba died two weeks before the start of this year’s season. Some of Ojimba’s teammates were invited to join the varsity teams at their respective high schools, but decided to stay with the Pop Warner Cowboys this year to honor Junior.
“It shakes me up, I get goosebumps,’’ Junior’s brother, Oby Ojimba, told CBS Boston. “The love being poured out by these guys is incredible.’’
The team hopes to make it to the nationals in Orlando, Florida.
