Police say suspect in foot chase raised weapon toward officers
Jose Martinez, 21, was arrested with the help of a K-9 unit.
A 21-year-old man was tracked down and arrested with the help of a police K-9 after he raised a loaded firearm at officers and then fled into a nearby garage, according to Boston Police.
The incident began when officers in Roxbury began walking towards “known gang member’’ Jose Martinez, according to police. Martinez fled, clutching at his waist band, and climbed over a chain link fence to evade capture, police said.
Police said the suspect, now on the other side of the fence, pulled a loaded 9mm firearm from his waist and raised it toward the officers. They drew their weapons and ordered Martinez to drop his. Martinez dropped his weapon on the ground and fled again out of sight.
That’s when police brought K-9 “Kodi’’ and the canine’s handler to the scene to track the suspect. Martinez was found and captured without incident inside a garage.
He was arrested on breaking and entering, trespassing and several weapons charges, police said.
