Crews battle a brush fire on Mount Tom in Holyoke
“There are a lot of trees down,’’ said Captain Anthony Cerutti of the Holyoke Fire Department.
Fire crews are battling a 18-acre brush fire on Mount Tom in Holyoke that began at 7 p.m. Sunday night and is still burning, said Captain Anthony Cerutti of the Holyoke Fire Department.
Officials do not know how the fire started and there are no injuries, said Cerutti.
“At this point it’s contained,’’ said Cerutti on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
However, logs were still burning and “there are a lot of trees down,’’ Cerutti said.
The fire spread in a wooded area between Route 5 and I-91, he said. Crews from the Holyoke Fire Department and the Department of Conservation and Recreation were at the scene, he said.
Smoke from the fire was visible to motorists commuting Monday morning on I-91, said Cerutti.
The fire is under investigation.
