The windows at the Government Center MBTA stop had to be installed twice

A defect caused the windows to be taken down and reinstalled.

The Boston Globe

Faulty sealant is to blame for a lot of extra work being done to the shiny new MTBA station at Government Center, according to The Boston Globe.

The station’s 358 glass panels had to be taken down and are being reinstalled after they fogged up, the Globe reported.

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told the Globe that the extra work won’t have any negative effects on the $82 million project.

Pesaturo also said the defect will not cost taxpayers more money: The contractor, Barletta Heavy Division, must pay for the extra work. Pesaturo did not have estimates for how much the glass walls cost, saying the issue is between “the general contractor and one of its subcontractors.’’

The entire re-installation should be done by the second week of December, the Globe reported.
