A political sign supporting Donald Trump was mistaken for an explosive device

The Boston Globe

An Andover man, who told police his past political signs have been destroyed or thrown into the woods, affixed a black box with “Do Not Touch’’ written on it to his newest sign in support of presidential candidate Donald Trump, hoping to discourage vandals.

While the sign wasn’t a victim of vandalism, it did become a matter of concern for police when someone passing by mistook the box for an explosive device, according to police.

A bicyclist became suspicious of the box and reported it to Andover police around 2:30 Thursday afternoon, police said.

The 6-foot-long sign was secured to the ground with two metal poles. One pole sported an American flag, while the black box was mounted to the other, police said.

Police said they determined that the box was not an explosive, but asked the resident to remove it to prevent further misunderstanding.
