Mass. tech firms are rooting for DraftKings

Local entrepreneurs are happy to see DraftKings staying and thriving in Massachusetts, The Boston Globe reports. Despite the controversy surrounding the company, DraftKings may be paving the way for a tech brand resurgence in Massachusetts.

“They have been the guys that are starting to help us shed this ‘Boston can’t do consumer’ [expletive],’’ Nick Rellas, CEO of alcohol delivery service start-up Drizly told the Globe. “I’m rooting for them really, really hard.’’

According to the Globe, the fantasy sports site joins the ranks of other, predominantly West Coast tech giants, and parallels between DraftKings and its Internet brethren are easy to draw. Uber, Airbnb, and DraftKings all rapidly gained popularity, provided a modern twist on an established service, and benefitted from ambiguities in local laws that were written well before the new services could be conceived.
