A woman escapes injury when a piece of wood pierces her windshield on I-91
State police said the accident could have been fatal.
A 67-year-old Holyoke woman escaped injury this morning when a piece of wood pierced her windshield while she was driving north on Interstate 91 in Springfield, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
The accident happened just after 11 a.m. Police said the wooden post fell off of another vehicle before being hit by a tractor trailer. The 18-wheeler’s tires sent the wood sailing into the air and through the windshield of the woman’s Subaru. The woman was uninjured.
“We are thankful the woman was not injured, but would like to remind all motorists to ensure all loads are properly secured,’’ said state police. “This incident could have had a fatal outcome.’’
