Owen’s Poultry Farm, a lush 10-acre property in Needham that raised and sold eggs, fowl, and heapings of gravy to locals, is closing its doors after eight decades, The Boston Globe reports.

The poultry farm was started in 1935 by Owen’s grandfather and has sold over a million eggs, turkeys, chickens, and pot pies in its history. Owen said he decided to close the farm and sell the 10 acres of land to the town of Needham, which plans to build an elementary school.

“Everything stops in life, except for death and taxes,’’ owner Douglas Owen, 57, said.
