Boston’s New Year’s Eve celebration will have fireworks after all, Mayor Marty Walsh announced yesterday.

“I am grateful for the City of Boston Credit Union for stepping up and sponsoring this year’s midnight fireworks,’’ said Mayor Walsh in a press release. “I know how special this tradition is to so many of Boston’s residents and visitors, and I am confident under the experienced leadership at Conventures, this year’s First Night will be a success.’’

Earlier this year, the city passed the reins of the First Night event to Boston-based PR and event-planning firm Conventures. The company said last week that they were struggling to raise enough funds to host the pyrotechnics, according to the Boston Herald.

According to the city, the Credit Union will donate $30,000 to the explosive cause.
