Most of the Black Lives Matter I-93 protestors avoid jail sentences
Nine months after blocking I-93 during a Black Lives Matter protest, 15 of the “Somerville 18’’ avoided jail sentences, according to WGBH.
On Thursday, 14 of the individuals involved admitted to trespassing, and had their cases continued without a finding. They were ordered to perform 60 hours of community service. Charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest were dropped. Another protestor received a similar finding earlier this year.
One protestor told WGBH while she’s happy not to be incarcerated, she doesn’t believe everyone in the country gets the same legal treatment she received.
Three more protestors are set to face trial in December, and each face sentences of 45 days in jail.
