Lowell school closes after 5 students were hospitalized
After virus-like symptoms sent five students to the hospital, the remaining students and faculty at James Sullivan Middle School in Lowell were evacuated Thursday afternoon, The Boston Globe reported.
At first, school officials thought the students may have been showing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, leading them to call authorities around 11:30 Thursday morning. After the carbon monoxide theory was ruled out, police and firefighters began assisting the school in a “thorough hard surface cleaning,’’ the Globe reported.
Officials have not yet made a decision as to whether the school will open Friday.
