Crash involving two cars and a tractor trailer near Gillette Stadium injures 1, closes lanes
A crash involving two cars and a tractor trailer in Wrentham a few miles from Gillette Stadium closed portions of Route 1 Thursday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police. All lanes on Route 1 were reopened just after 4:30 p.m., police said.
Just after 2 p.m., a Kia traveling north in the center lane on Route 1 hit a Volvo to its left while trying to change lanes, according to police. The crash pushed the Volvo into southbound traffic where an oncoming tractor trailer struck it, seriously injuring the 67-year-old woman behind the wheel, police said.
Police closed the southbound lanes near Myrtle Street and rerouted traffic to Route 140. All but one northbound lane was closed as well to make way for a medical helicopter that was enroute to the scene at 3 p.m. Boston MedFlight transported the 67-year-old woman to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated for injuries, police said. There were no other injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
