The public rushed to comfort a 6-foot-long blue shark stranded on a Cape Cod beach Tuesday, according to a Facebook post by the Center for Coastal Studies. Folks formed a bucket brigade to keep the young male shark wet while waiting for experts to help the creature.
“Many, many thanks to the members of the public who worked to keep the shark as comfortable as possible while it was on the beach,’’ wrote the center in its post.
The shark was discovered on a beach in Provincetown, after which the Center for Coastal Studies was called for help. The center, along with Provincetown Harbormaster Rex McKinsey, towed the animal into deeper water, where it was released.
The stressed out shark had regurgitated its stomach, which is fairly common, according to the center. Shark researcher Greg Skomal told the center the shark may be able to swallow it back down.
