Boston’s City Councillors just voted 9-4 to give themselves a $12,000 raise
The Boston City Council voted 9-4 on Wednesday to give each councillor a raise of $12,000, pushing their pay to $99,500 a year, The Boston Globe reports.
The vote comes after a long debate that began last year, when City Council President Bill Linehan proposed to increase salaries to $112,500. Mayor Marty Walsh proposed a smaller raise to the accepted salary of just under six-figures, the Globe reports.
Councillors had not received a raise since 2006. Last year, Linehan said the raise was “long overdue’’ and called his initial proposal a “moderate increase.’’
