Police are holding a vehicle of interest in fatal Saugus hit-and-run

Police found and are holding a vehicle they believe may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Saugus late Sunday night, according to Massachusetts State Police. The investigation remains active, police said.

Just before 11 p.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old man was hit while crossing Route 1, according to police. Authorities believe he was staying in a hotel along Route 1 and had just left a nearby establishment when a vehicle hit him and then fled the scene. He was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Police said Monday they will apply for search warrants to find more information about the vehicle’s owner and who may have been behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
