Earlier this month, someone tore a banner reading “Black Lives Matter’’ from the front yard of Arlington’s First Parish Unitarian Universalist church and used spray paint to cover the word “black,’’ The Boston Globe reported. In response, the church has purchased a new, identical banner, and plans to hold a ceremony Tuesday to rededicate it.

“We are not talking about a big protest, or a big event, but we want to have an opportunity for people to come together, and feel together, that we are collectively restoring the banner,’’ Lori Kenschaft, the parish’s clerk, told the Globe.

Arlington police are investigating the incident, using surveillance footage from nearby cameras to try to track down a suspect. In attempt to prevent damage to the new sign, the church has ordered a sturdier frame, according to the Globe.
