Maine is restocking its ponds by dropping fish out of the sky

Holy carp!

The fish in Maine’s lakes come from up in the air. Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a tank full of fish being dropped out of a plane.

One of the responsibilities of the Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is to restock fish in hard-to-reach ponds throughout the state. The department posted a video on Tuesday showing how it does so – by dropping the fish out of the sky right into the water.

The video begins with fish hatchery personnel pouring a bucket of fish into a yellow tankard attached to a plane. At about 10 seconds in, you can see the fish sloshing around in the tank aboard the aircraft.

The real action begins at about 1:25 of the video. As the plane flies low over a pond, the tank is flipped over and the fish launch to their new watery homes.
