Watch: Coast Guard airlifts sick captain from boat 85 miles off Nantucket
Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a call on Friday from the crew aboard the Alexis Martina. They were about 85 miles from Nantucket, and their captain was ill, needing medical attention.
The Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew from Air Station Cape Cod flew to the scene, hoisted the man from the fishing vessel into the helicopter, and brought him to the Hyannis Airport. An EMS crew transported him to Cape Cod Hospital, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.
“Our crews out at the air station train for cases like this every day,’’ Petty Officer 1st Class Joshua Sharp, the operations unit coordinator at Sector Southeastern New England, said in the statement. “It’s great to be able to help this captain and get him the medical care he needs.’’
