Hockey-playing cop saves teammate in cardiac arrest

Sean Proctor / The Boston Globe

A quick thinking off-duty police officer performed CPR on a 76-year-old hockey player last night, potentially saving the man’s life.

Arlington Police Department Officer Michael Hogan was off duty on Tuesday night playing in a hockey game at the Ed Burns Arena Ice Skating Rink, according to a press release. When his teammate collapsed, Hogan recognized the man as having cardiac arrest. As the only person at the rink who knew CPR, he began attempts to save the man while another called 911 for help.

Hogan continued administering CPR until the first responders could arrive and transport the man to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, where he is now recovering.
