Marco Rubio hopes New Hampshire residents remember Mike Dukakis better than most of the public.

The Republican presidential candidate slammed the current Democratic party on Wednesday during a New Hampshire town hall by comparing its liberalism to Dukakis, the three-term Massachusetts governor and 1988 Democratic nominee for president.

“I only caught snippets of [the debate], but I caught enough of it to know the Democratic party is more liberal today than it’s been since Michael Dukakis,’’ Rubio said. “Maybe even before that.’’

Sadly for Rubio’s comparison, Dukakis doesn’t have much of a national profile anymore. In a recent poll, 48 percent of Democratic primary voters had no opinion on Dukakis, suggesting he’s largely been forgotten to the American public.
