Ernie Boch Jr. donates way, way too much money to Donald Trump, gets it refunded
Ernie Boch Jr. might support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign a little too much.
The Massachusetts billionaire car dealer, who hosted a rally in August for his fellow billionaire, gave $86,936.80 to Trump’s campaign, according to the Republican’s presidential candidate’s fundraising filing Thursday.
That is too much. Way too much.
The limit on individual campaign contributions is $2,700, so Trump had to give back $84,236.80.
As Trump’s third-quarter filing with the Federal Election Commission states — “In-kind – EVENT CATERING’’ — Boch attempted to make the donation by paying for the catering at the rally, which the car dealership mogul held at his Norwood mansion August 28.
While unable to talk about the specifics of one particular committee’s activity, FEC deputy press officer Christian Holland confirmed to Boston.com that “a refund would be required if a committee accepted an excessive contribution – whether monetary or in-kind.’’
Leading up to the rally, Boch told The Boston Globe he wasn’t necessarily endorsing Trump for president.
According to the filing, Trump’s campaign raised $3.9 million from the beginning of July to the end of September.
