Impaired driver hits New Hampshire trooper’s cruiser, police say

New Hampshire State Police received a report Sunday afternoon that a Ford Explorer was weaving in and out of traffic and cutting other vehicles off while traveling southbound on Interstate 93 in Thornton. One minute later, the car collided with a state trooper’s cruiser, according to police.

Sgt. Victor Muzzey had stopped another car for a traffic violation and was sitting in his cruiser when the Explorer crashed into his vehicle, sending it off the roadway and into the trees lining the highway, police said.

Katherine Dangelo, 62, of Lincoln, New Hampshire, was driving the Explorer, according to police. Police said that they determined Dangelo was under the influence of controlled medication while on the scene, and arrested her for driving while intoxicated. Both Muzzey and Dangelo were transported to Speare Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to police.
