Mother gives birth in most Massachusetts place possible

Congratulations! Matthew J. Lee / The Boston Globe

A Massachusetts mother successfully gave birth to a baby girl while stuck in traffic on the Mass Pike on Friday morning, state police said.

Police received a call from the baby’s father at 6:26 a.m., and it “seemed like the mom was already in the process of delivering,’’ a police spokesman said. The couple was headed eastbound on the Pike near Natick.

By the time two troopers and an ambulance arrived on the scene about 5 minutes later, a healthy baby girl had been born, police said. The family then continued on to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in the ambulance.

Congratulations to the new baby, who we assume will be named “Pike,’’ “Lane,’’ or “Offramp.’’
