Dorchester man indicted on manslaughter charge in teen bicyclist’s death

A man who authorities say struck and killed an 18-year-old bicyclist in Dorchester last May has been indicted on a manslaughter while operating under the influence charge, the Suffolk District Attorney’s office said Thursday.

Gregory McCoy, 27, also was indicted on the following charges in connection with the May 19 crash: leaving the scene of a collision causing death, leaving the scene of a collision causing injury, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court Friday.

According to authorities, McCoy was driving a friend’s Cadillac through the intersection of Norwell Street and Talbot Avenue in Dorchester when he slammed into the back of a BMW stopped at a red light. Both vehicles were sent into the intersection where 18-year-old Fritz Philogene was standing with his bike waiting to cross the street. Philogene was hit and died at the scene.

The crash also injured the 33-year-old driver of the BMW and McCoy’s passenger, the 26-year-old Quincy man who owned the Cadillac.

McCoy fled the scene on foot, according to the DA’s office. He was later arrested at his home.
