Walsh and Baker just a few men of Boston to cook for women’s health
Have you ever pictured Mayor Marty Walsh in an apron?
Now’s your chance: Walsh will be one of 50 celebrity chefs, along with Governor Charlie Baker, Police Commissioner Bill Evans, and former Patriots players, to trade the spotlight for serving spoons at the Men of Boston Cook for Women’s Health fundraising event on Thursday.
Since 1995, Men of Boston has raised over $2 million to help fight women’s health issues like breast cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, and HIV/AIDS, according to Codman Square Health Center.
Massachusetts has the third highest rate of invasive breast cancer in women in the country, according to the American Cancer Society.
This local fundraiser has helped over 20,000 local women, and earned accolades along the way as a need-to-attend food and wine event.
Walsh’s family recipes won’t be served, though. Eastern Standard, The Friendly Toast, and other Boston-area restaurants are providing the food.
Tickets are $150, which might seem steep to be served by the Mayor, but rest assured: $100 of that goes directly to supporting these women’s health programs.
The event is from 6-9 p.m. October 1, under the Gala Tent at 637 Washington St. in Dorchester.
