Investigation into Boston Public Library’s missing art ended months ago

The Boston Police Department said they would continue the investigation after the missing prints were found to be misfiled in another part of the library.

When two pieces of artwork went missing from the Boston Public Library this summer, there were wide repercussions. There were thoughts it was an inside job, the library’s president, Amy E. Ryan, announced her resignation, and stories of past missing pieces resurfaced. When the prints were found to have just been misfiled instead of stolen, the Boston Police Department said the criminal investigation would continue.

It didn’t.

The police, who were leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI, quietly closed the case on June 4, according to The Boston Globe—on the same day the Globe reported that the prints were found but the investigation would go on.
